Goa Police Bust Drug Haul In Sasoli Village On Maharashtra-Goa Border

The Goa Police on Tuesday busted a drug haul in Sasoli village, which is located on the Maharashtra-Goa border. The police seized around 100 kg of ganja from the village.

September 13, 2023: The police received a tip-off about the drug consignment being smuggled into Goa from Maharashtra. A team of police officers was deployed to Sasoli village, where they intercepted a truck carrying the ganja. The truck driver, identified as Suresh Patil, was arrested. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Police suspect more drug hauls in the offing

The police suspect that there may be more drug hauls in the offing. They have intensified patrolling in the area and are conducting searches of vehicles entering Goa from Maharashtra. The police said that the ganja was being smuggled into Goa from Maharashtra for further distribution in the state. They suspect that the drug consignment was meant to be supplied to drug peddlers in Goa. They are also questioning people in the area in an effort to gather more intelligence about the drug trafficking racket.

Cross-border trafficking

At an online meeting of police officers from Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu on August 28, the Goa Police mentioned Sasoli in connection with drug trafficking.

In the presentation titled, ‘Cross border smuggling of drugs and use of the Dark Web to aid these networks’, the Goa Police said dirt roads had emerged between Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district and Goa, and traffickers were increasingly using them to smuggle narcotics. “Drug traffickers based in Goa use Sasoli village in Sindhudurg district to receive consignments, according to local intelligence,” the presentation stated.

Villagers applaud police action

Villagers in Sasoli have applauded the police action. They said that the drug menace has been a major problem in the area and that the police have finally taken action against it. The Goa Police has declared that they are committed to curbing the drug menace in the state. They have appealed to the public to come forward with any information about drug trafficking.

The police have also warned drug peddlers that they will be dealt with strictly. They have appealed to the public to help them in their fight against drug trafficking by reporting any suspicious activity to the police.
