Maharashtra Premier League to Kick Off in Pune on June 15 with Six Teams
Pune, Maharashtra – The highly anticipated Maharashtra Premier League (MPL), a men’s T20 cricket tournament, is set to captivate cricket enthusiasts as it commences on June 15, 2023, at the esteemed MCA International Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.
Promoted by the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), the inaugural edition of MPL will feature six teams, providing a remarkable platform for aspiring cricketers from Maharashtra to showcase their skills on a professional stage and gain national recognition.
Rohit Pawar, MLA and President of the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), expressed his pride and enthusiasm in launching the Maharashtra Premier League. He highlighted the significance of this tournament, which has been sanctioned by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and follows the successful model of the renowned Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to Pawar, MPL marks a momentous milestone for MCA and promises to elevate cricket in Maharashtra to new heights. The Maharashtra Premier League will witness the participation of not only local talents but also prominent cricketers representing Maharashtra at the international level.
Kedar Jadhav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, and 100 other cricketers from the state will display their prowess in the tournament, captivating fans with their exceptional abilities. To ensure extensive coverage and viewership across the nation, MPL matches will be broadcast live on the national television channel, DD Sports, and streamed on various over-the-top (OTT) platforms. This strategic move aims to bring the excitement of the tournament to a wide audience.
The team compositions for MPL will be determined through player auctions scheduled for June 5. More than 200 players from various regions of Maharashtra, including Pune, Aurangabad, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Ahmednagar, Beed, Dhule, Buldhana, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad, and Solapur, have registered for the auction process. To ensure fairness and transparency, the team owners will acquire teams through a closed bid system, maintaining integrity in team ownership, as emphasized by Pawar.
