Pune, June 5, 2023 – In a remarkable feat, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has set a new record by collecting an astounding amount of Rs 200 crores in property tax within the first two months of the fiscal year 2023-24. This achievement highlights the effective measures taken by the PCMC to recover outstanding dues and streamline the tax collection process.
Technological Advancements Simplify Tax Payment
Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Tax Commissioner of PCMC, attributed this success to the implementation of advanced technologies and convenient payment methods. Over the past 1.5 years, several property tax defaulters had neglected their payment obligations. In response, the PCMC resorted to the confiscation of properties as a means to recover the outstanding dues. However, with the widespread adoption of smartphones, digital services, and online payment platforms, paying property tax has become more accessible and hassle-free.
Future Plans for Efficient Tax Collection
Looking ahead, Nilesh Deshmukh outlined the PCMC’s plans to take more robust measures to ensure the timely collection of property tax, especially from defaulters. The involvement of officials from the women’s division in the collection process is one such step to be taken. The PCMC remains optimistic that these initiatives will not only facilitate the prompt payment of property taxes but also aid in the recovery of overdue amounts.
Overview of Property Tax Holders and Payment Methods
According to data from the PCMC’s tax department, there are a total of 6,02,614 property tax holders in the region. Impressively, within the first two months of the current fiscal year, 1,60,300 property holders have already fulfilled their tax obligations. The PCMC accepts various payment methods, including cash, cheque, demand draft, cards, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, and online payments, offering convenience and flexibility to taxpayers.
To encourage timely payments, the PCMC provides the following incentives:
- 5% discount for those who pay in cash at the PCMC’s tax office cash counter.
- 10% discount for online payments.
- 30% discount for women taxpayers.
- 50% discount for handicapped taxpayers.
Future Target: Collection of Rs 1000 Crores
With an ambitious goal in mind, the PCMC aims to collect property tax worth Rs 1000 crores throughout the remainder of the fiscal year. To achieve this target, the PCMC urges all property tax holders to fulfill their payment obligations promptly and contribute to the development and maintenance of the region’s infrastructure.
