PCMC Takes Action Against 22,000 Property Tax Defaulters

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: In a bid to recover 50% of its tax target before June 30, the PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) has issued over 22,000 attachment notices to property holders with dues exceeding Rs1 lakh over the past four weeks. 

Nilesh Deshmukh, the head of PCMC’s tax department, stated, “Last year, we took action against 3,000 defaulters and put approximately 200 properties up for auction. This year, we will not spare any non-compliant property owners.”

PCMC officials have announced that the attachment process will commence soon. With a property tax recovery target of Rs1,000 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24, the corporation has successfully recovered Rs100 crore so far.

Deshmukh also mentioned that PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) is offering various discounts to property holders who settle their dues by June 30. Currently, 87,456 property owners have paid their taxes, and approximately 70,000 have availed of various discounts by making online payments. 

Shekhar Singh, the Commissioner and Administrator of PCMC said that “We are updating the information on available properties, and this proactive approach seems to be positively impacting the recovery process.”
