Pimpri, 18th May 2023: In line with the state government’s directive to promote electric vehicles, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced plans to auction 120 unused and old diesel and petrol vehicles that are older than 14 years. This move targets to generate revenue for the municipal treasury, with an estimated collection of Rs 1.09 crore.
The PCMC has been actively promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in local bodies and has even prioritized the establishment of charging stations across the city. Recently, a tender process was initiated for the installation of these charging stations at various important locations.
To make way for the new electric vehicles, the municipal corporation decided to sell the old diesel and petrol vehicles through an auction. A tender was issued for 122 vehicles, and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Sub-Regional Transport Office conducted an e-auction, increasing the fare by 10 percent.
The vehicle auction resulted in a total value of Rs 92.96 lakh for 120 vehicles, as two vehicles were priced below the minimum set price and were excluded from the sale. Consequently, the municipal corporation (PCMC) will sell the remaining 120 vehicles, generating an income of Rs 1,09,69,000.
Municipal Commissioner of PCMC Shekhar Singh has approved the payment of this revenue to the treasury and the vehicles will be handed over to the successful bidders. This vehicle auction not only serves as a step towards promoting electric vehicles but also contributes to the financial health of the municipal corporation.
