New Road in NIBM Annexe: A Tale of Disruption and Inconvenience
In recent days, the Cloud 9 slope in NIBM annexe, Pune, has become the centre of controversy. The road, which was recently levelled and widened, has now been dug up to install a water pipeline. This act, allegedly carried out by a local builder without proper permission, has left the residents in the area frustrated and angry. Despite the road being open for just a few days, it has already suffered unnecessary and illegal damage, causing inconvenience to the public.
The Plight of the Citizens
The newly bricked footpath and the cemented road opened for traffic on June 14 have been marred by irresponsible digging work. This has sparked an outcry among the residents of the NIBM annexe, who express their disappointment and concern over the situation. Poonam Shah, a resident, voices her frustration, stating that the road had been closed to vehicular traffic for six months before being fixed and made accessible to the public. She questions the need for further digging when the road has been renovated. She emphasises that such defacement of the road is a wasteful use of taxpayers’ money.
Ashwin Gupta, another resident, shares his disappointment, mentioning that he was initially delighted by the levelling and widening of the slope. However, this joy was short-lived, as the side of the road was dug up once again, causing chaos and disarray. Gupta highlights that the residents had been waiting patiently for over seven years for this patch to be fixed, only to witness it quickly fall into disrepair. The residents feel let down and express their desire for long-lasting solutions that can improve their living conditions.
Lack of Communication and Accountability
The Hadapsar ward officials claim to have received no prior intimation about the digging work and confirm that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) did not grant any permission for such activities. This raises serious concerns about the need for more communication and coordination between the local authorities and the individuals responsible for the road’s destruction. Kiran Narad, a junior engineer from the PMC road department, further adds that a police complaint has been filed against the developer of The Ark (Tribeca Developers) on behalf of the municipal corporation.
Seeking Justice and Accountability
Hadapsar MLA Chetan Tupe strongly condemns the unauthorised digging and emphasises the need for strict legal action against the culprits. Tupe insists that the civic administration must take immediate steps to hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions. He calls for the developer or contractor to repair the damages caused to the road and demands the issuance of a construction stopover notice. Additionally, he stresses the importance of imposing heavy penalties to set an example for other developers and contractors, ensuring that they do not engage in similar unauthorised activities.
