PM Modi Receives a Warm Welcome in Sydney, Australia, Prepares to Meet Anthony Albanese
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Australia to a grand reception after his three-nation tour. As a guest of the Australian government, PM Modi will be staying in Australia until May 24. During his three-day visit, he has planned meetings with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, and will participate in a celebration of the vibrant and diverse Indian diaspora in Australia.
Upon his arrival in Sydney, Prime Minister Modi was greeted by the Indian community with great warmth. This marks his second visit to the country, and the Indian diaspora expressed their joy by singing songs in his honor. Voices could be heard singing, “Suno suno oh duniyawalon Bharat ne bulaya hai, Modi ji ke navbharat ko aage aur badhana hai,” which translates to “Listen, listen, oh people of the world, India has called upon us to take the New India forward,” showcasing their admiration for the Indian PM. PM Modi appeared to enjoy the welcome and responded with expressions of appreciation, saying “Waah, Waah” and applauding their enthusiasm.
The Indian community in Sydney also showcased their joy through dance, performing the ‘Naatu Naatu’ song and traditional Garba at the Qudos Bank Arena to celebrate PM Modi’s visit. Members of the Indian diaspora traveled to Sydney on May 23, some on a privately chartered flight called “Modi Airways,” to attend PM Modi’s speech on the Australia-India relationship. Prior to the community event, a recreational aircraft flew across the sky with the message ‘Welcome Modi,’ creating a viral moment on social media platforms.
More than 170 individuals of Indian descent, associated with the Indian Australian Diaspora Foundation (IADF), took a chartered flight from Melbourne to Sydney for the ceremony at the Olympic Park Arena. These individuals, wearing tricolour turbans and holding Indian flags, boarded the plane, which had been affectionately named “Modi Airways” by the Prime Minister’s supporters. The Australian government’s official statement noted that the IADF is hosting the Sydney event to honor Australia’s vibrant and diverse Indian population, which is an integral part of the country’s multicultural fabric.
During his three-day visit to Australia, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and participate in the celebration of the thriving Indian diaspora. Before arriving in Sydney, Modi had productive discussions with James Marape in Papua New Guinea, where they assessed and explored opportunities for bilateral collaboration in various domains, including business, technology, healthcare, and climate change.
